Could nursery rhymes feature on Eurovision?

A long, long time ago, in a time so very far away, I was young. You may think that as a 16 year old I’m young now – but as a teenager anything under the age of 11 is young. As a young person I needed to be kept in check, to make sure I didn’t stuff my nose full of crayons. There was a time before primary school where people didn’t care if it was your birthday, indeed you yourself wouldn’t realise the significance of that day. At the ages of 4 and 5 you were expected to attend Nursery. This was intended to educate you in the arts of scribbled painting and squirting milk out of your nose. That, or keep you occupied whilst your parents performed their day job. However, as explained before, my father – Beanz – did not have a day job, in fact his job didn’t really have a schedule, well not normally anyway (If he was on tour then yes). Neither did his colleagues and friends. That’s why, one day, when me and my 5 year old comrades were having a ‘who can squirt the milk the furthest’ competition, we had a little surprise.

My dad and his friend Gregg Leicester who worked with such groups as the Spice Girls came to sing a song to our hyper minds whilst the teachers went out back to smoke a fag. They sang such chart hits as ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’ and ‘Humpty Dumpty’ whist the class sat back and stared in wonder at these strange men and their wooden music making contraption. Just a quick point, they didn’t go around to multiple schools and do this – just ours, that would be creepy. From then on they performed with that live audience of thirty about once a month, and no they didn’t get paid for it. Nor did they do it for the possibility of being talent spotted by a music guru, though to be honest famous musicians don’t tend to hang around nursery’s. They did it out of the kindest of their hearts. They did it to bring joy to all those small children. They did it because they had nothing better to do. Unfortunately they didn’t repeat the act the following year when I was 6 and moved up to primary school, mainly because we were too busy colouring in pictures of Winnie the Pooh and drawing pictures of pirates saving cowboys through the medium of jerky scribbles. However, Beanz would lend his musical talents a few more times to the school over the next 8 years, but that of course is a tale for another day.

- I apologise for the length of time it's been since the last post, and the shortness of this one. Time has been short and other things have taken precedence. I try to make these one of these posts at least once every 1 or 2 weeks, the home page is reserved for special events -
  • Nursery - Kindergarten
  • Primary School - Elementary School
  • Winnie the Pooh - Childrens cartoon made in the early 1920's
  • The Spice Girls - Popular girl band in the 1990's (Before my time)
  • Fag - Cigarette
